After a busy home stretch leading up to opening weekend, and a huge opening event, we now have two weekends and a full week of riding in the books!
Volunteers have been stepping up to help address initial maintenance needs. If you have been to the bike park this past week, you might have noticed that the park needs water, as often as possible, and we need your help to make it happen. The hoses are generally kept on during the day so the next time you need a little break or notice that a section of the park needs water, please check in with a Parks staff member (if you have not already gone through training for watering) and grab a hose! We also have shovels and brooms out at the park, so arrangements can be made for informal “drop in” maintenance work. This type of daily volunteer maintenance and ongoing volunteer support will be essential to the upkeep of the park.
Volunteer efforts ramped up this past weekend, as volunteers did repair work on some of the dual slalom berms, and the big berm on the advanced line of the progression course. Additionally volunteers helped with watering throughout the park.
In an effort to ensure that this work persists, and to bring the bike community together at the park, we will organize regular scheduled workdays. Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park will lead the outreach effort through a volunteer recruiting website, VolunteerSpot. We need Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park Volunteers (you) to lead the workdays! Staff will provide logistical support and will be open to suggestions and feedback that you have from your experience riding and maintaining the park.
Our upcoming workdays will be:
- Sunday, September 6th, 8am-10:30am
- Sunday, September 13th, 8am-10:30am
- Sunday, September 20th, 8am-10:30am
- Sunday, October 4th, 8am-10:30am
Look for an invitation to attend through Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park/VolunteerSpot in the next couple of days. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you would like to be removed from this mailing list.
